
2000 Chevy Cavalier
Chevy Cavalier is offered as a 2-door coupe in base and Z24 form, as a 4-door sedan in base and LS trim. All get minor front and rear appearance changes, with the Z24's exclusive exterior touches including a new rear spoiler. Air conditioning becomes standard on all models, as does the previously optional rear defroster.
The front-drive Chevy Cavalier, General Motors' best-selling car line, gains several standard features and a spruced-up appearance.Chevy Cavalier is built from the same design as the Pontiac Sunfire but has different front and rear styling. An optional sound system with cassette and CD players adds Radio Data System technology.
Base models and the LS sedan come with a 115-horsepower, 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, and the sporty Z24 coupe and convertible use a dual camshaft 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 150 horsepower.
2000 Chevy Cavalier has standard anti-lock brakes, a feature still optional on some more-expensive mid-size models. All Cavaliers have 4-cylinder engines. Manual transmission is standard on all but the LS sedan. A 3-speed automatic is optional on base models. Antilock brakes are standard. This crowded segment is best represented by two exceptional cars--one a Best Buy and the other a Recommended. Topping the Recommended list are the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta.
Still available as a coupe, sedan or convertible, Chevy's best-selling car gets several subtle changes for 2000. Understandably so, because the Chevy Cavalier offers reasonable value and is priced low enough to compete favorably in the compact market, often undercutting smaller models from other manufacturers.

A slightly revised instrument panel boasts new gauges, digital odometer and trip meter, and stereo controls relocated above the climate controls for easier access. The center-console shift indicator is illuminated for 2000, and air-conditioning is standard on all Cavaliers. GM's venerable 2.2-liter four-cylinder is standard in the Cavalier.
